• From Kitchen Pantry to Beauty Drawer

Besan (chickpea) flour and turmeric have become star ingredients in both my kitchen pantry and my beauty routine, here's why:

    1. Combined with water, celtic salt and black pepper these two ingredients make a simple and satisfying pancake, otherwise known as 'Socca'.

I blend the following ingredients to a smooth consistency and then fry (in some coconut oil or ghee) as you would a pancake.  I find this a great substitute when I am trying to avoid bread and serve with fermented vegetables, avocado and fresh salad for a light and satisfying meal.
    • 1 cup of besan (chickpea) flour
    • 1 teaspoon turmeric
    • 1/ 1/4 cup water
    • 1/2 tsp of celtic salt
    • 1/4 tsp of ground pepper

    2. When it comes to beauty, besan flour and turmeric have the ability to transform my skin from looking dull and tired to radiant and glowing after a single application.

I make a dry mixture using 1 cup of besan flour to 1/2 tbsp of turmeric which I store in an air tight jar.

To use as a face mask I mix approx. 1 tbsp of this mixture with water, rose water and honey to make a paste that can be applied smoothly without dripping all over the floor or furniture (WARNING: turmeric stains!).  I allow the paste to dry for 10 - 15 minutes before rinsing with warm water.

As a face exfoliator I put a small amount of the dry mixture in my hand and add a water to form a paste.  I massage the paste into my face using circular motions for 1 minute before rinsing with warm water.

Friends of mine have been blown away by how good their skin looks after trying this combination.  The best thing about DIY beauty is that you have the choice to purchase Certified Organic ingredients.  This gives me peace of mind knowing that I am doing my best to take care of my health and that of the planets xx
