• Skin Eats… Edible Beauty Products!

If you are friends with Deer Daisy in the world of social media, you will probably know that another passion of mine (besides creating eco-friendly stationery) lies with 100% natural and edible beauty products. It is my belief that nature provides us with all the ingredients we need to achieve a healthy and glowing complexion.  I am so excited for the opportunity to talk about this topic in more depth at the upcoming Yoga Rhythms Retreat.  This retreat will take place in the beautiful Glasshouse Mountains from Friday 17th April - Sunday 21st April... and there are still spaces available!  For more information including booking details please see here.

In the meantime, here are three reasons why I believe switching to edible beauty products can be of great benefit to us personally and to the well-being of our planet.

    1.  Better for our health.  Did you know that the skin ingests nutrients as well? So everything that we apply to our skin topically is absorbed directly into our bloodstream.  It is therefore important to me that just as I feed my body with organically grown produce, I do the same in regards to my skin. I do this by only using products on my skin that I would also happily put in my mouth…everything from my facial cleanser to moisturiser to body lotions could be also be eaten if desired. Have a look at your skin care range and ask yourself… would I eat a meal made from these ingredients?

    2.  Better for the health of our planet. Organically grown produce not only supports our personal health but also that of the planet. Spray free food means less toxins being released into our atmosphere. Think about the process involved in order to produce a store bought cream or lotion… production, packaging and transport. This whole production process will have a much more damaging effect on our environment than a trip to the local farmers markets to buy some organically grown fruit and veg would!

    3.  Supports animal rights.  It is a sad and scary thought to think that animal testing is still carried out all in the name of vanity! Edible beauty products are a great way to ensure you are not supporting this cruel and outdated industry.

Mother nature has provided us with an abundance of produce that will have you glowing from the inside out.  I encourage you to do your research and experiment with different organically grown foods to find those that work best for your skin type….think bananas, honey, oats, cucumber, avocado, papaya, aloe vera, lemons etc.

If you are completely new to edible beauty products keep it simple and start by experimenting with single ingredients.  One of the most effective and simple face-masks I enjoy using, when is season, is smashed avocado. Apply to clean, dry skin and leave for 15 minutes before rinsing with warm water. This mask is particularly hydrating and therefore great for keeping those fine lines at bay.  Good for you, your skin and the planet - enjoy xx
